ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Our Vision

The STEAM docent monthly program will be designed to elevate the current Art Docent program and further foster curiosity, creativity, critical-thinking among students aged 4-9 through hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that will help bridge what they’ve learned into how it is applied in real life.

This initiative would not be possible without the generosity of parents willing to give their time to help keep wonderment alive during these very curious years. A fantastic opportunity for parents who already work within these specialized fields.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower parents to deliver high-quality STEAM education to young students. We are committed to promoting sustainable and inclusive learning experiences by providing access to resources, materials, and support. Join us in creating a brighter future for our children through the power of STEAM education.

FAQs

Do I need experience in STEAM?

Nope! All lesson plans and experiments are pre-developed…we just need you to implement them! The students will watch a video that introduces the concept, so no need to put on your scientist lab coat and channel your inner Bill Nye - unless you want to.

Feel free to add your own spin to it, too!

What are the roles in STEAM Docent?

  • We will need one lead and 3 volunteers for each project.

  • The lead will be in charge of checking inventory, coordinating with the teacher on lesson dates as well as facilitating the project to the class.

  • The other volunteers will be supporting the lead and help carry out the instructions across each student.

Do I need to buy materials?

All the materials are prepped and organized into a labeled bin. If any other supplies are needed, it will be listed in your lesson plans (i.e. glue sticks from the classroom). You will never need to bring anything from home.

How often do I volunteer?

There is a themed project each month, with 2-3 hours of commitment per project.

Just like seasonal classroom parties, there will be a lead for each theme. Based on how many themes/projects you sign up for that's how many months you'd be volunteering.

How do I know what to teach?

Based on which theme you are assigned to, you can go onto the respective Projects page for the lesson tutorials, materials list and videos you need to succeed.

Can I change my assigned project?

Reach out to the Head Docent over email, and we can discuss available options and may be able to switch with someone.
